My version of Word: Word 2002 (Office XP)
My OS: Windows XP Home (with SP 3)
The problem:
Sometimes (not every time) when I try to close a document in Word, Word sticks (it does not react any longer) and my whole computer freezes: it does not react when I move the cursor of my mouse nor when I press any key. (So there is also no possibility to look at the task manager to see what is happening.) That means I have no other choice than shutting down the computer manually.
All this happens, although I am not in shadow mode, and although SD does not start with windows and DefenderDaemon.exe is removed from autostart!
But here the reason why I nevertheless suspect that the recent version of SD might cause the problem with Word:
- Using my Word already for years, I had this problem never before (not even with the former version of SD 1.1.0.320 which I had tested 30 days). It appeared for the first time shortly after installing (and registering) version 1.1.0.325 (on February 23rd).
- No other fundamental changes on my computer were made in this time (no other installation of new software etc.). The documents are also the same which I had opened and closed already for years before without any problems.
- In order to find out the reason for the problem, some days later (on February 28th) I restored an image from my harddisc. With this restore the newest version of SD was removed again (and replaced by the former version 1.1.0.320 which however I did not use or register during the follwing testing time). From now on I could work again with Word without any problems!
- One week later (yesterday, March 6th) I decided to reinstall and (re-)register version 1.1.0.325 of SD (after uninstalling the older version). At the begin Word continued to work normally (closing all documents without difficulties), but only 3 hours after the new installation of SD 1.1.0.325 the problem appeared again: Word could not close a document and all the computer froze.
---> So at the moment it seems very likely to me that the problem with Word is caused by SD in its recent version (possibly with bigger documents, as some of my documents have 11 or 12 MB and one 24 MB ?).
At the moment I have uninstalled SD again.
Is there anyone with the same problem or with ideas how to solve it?
