Shadow session across reboots

Postby UnknownX » Sun Mar 07, 2010 6:06 am

Hi to all, I was curious about whether there are any current plans to implement the ability to maintain the same shadow session over reboots. Not only is it useful for software testing but also convenient for temporarily keeping some favorited links and settings for a relativlely extended time. Such a feature will considerably boost sales and set this already stellar product apart from the competition. Considering that this feaure is already available in the archaic Shadow User Pro, I am guessing that there shouldnt be any technical barriers in accomplishing that.

Just wondering about Tony's take on the matter, I believe that this would be a superb addition for the next major release.
Keep up the good work! :D

From memory, Tony attempted to implement shadow sessions across reboots in the past, but then decided it wasn't a good idea...not sure why. Regardless, I'd recommend using a Virtual Machine program to test applications easily - I personally use VirtualBox and it works great.
Sandboxie + LUA + SRP + DEP + SuRun
Windows Firewall + NAT Router
VirtualBox (on-demand)
Drive SnapShot (on-demand)

thank you for your input ssj. I was wondering though what kind of problems were experienced with the version tht had this feature added? I read somewhere that Returnil was thinking of adding such a thing in their future release. I was hoping you guys get to it first, as you clearly have lighter, efficient and superior product :D So Tony are you willing to give that option a future try?

Woah, all this a one man's effort?! Impressive product!! :) I will do my best in promoting this gem to everyone I find. Regarding the wilders forum thread about Returnil's plans to have this feature first; here's the link: http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=266024

The way I see it, shadow defender is lighter, more practical and just all-around adorable and thats why I wish you the best

Having been through the painful transition between Returnil 2008,and Returnil 2010,I fully agree with you.

I shudder to thank what added complexity will do to Returnil.

That said,we all profit from innovation!!
ShadowDefender 1.1.0.323, Sandboxie 3.45.09,NAT router,Kerio 2.1.5.

Hello,

I agree with you: In fact, 2 minutes after I installed shadowdefender, I was looking for this option with no luck.

In fact, I have read all the help... and get dissapointed at the last page, you know.

If this is only a commercial issue, I recommend the developer to enable this option; it does not look that it should be too complex to do, as the main functionality for the application is already coded.

I'm a VB.NET certificated developer, and I can almost imagine there a "couple" of If reboot.. then :D

And finally, believe me or not, I'm absolutely sure that me and a very huge group of users would like this option.

I hope that our opinion could be taken seriously. 8-)
Best regards !

This is a really must have feature, VM are very unreliable when testing software and something an app that will not run in VM will run on a normal system.

If you want to check out and app that does have this look at Acronis True Image v2010 Home. I would like you to take a look at it Tony. It has what they call "Try&Decide" mode and it will work across reboot. You mite want to see how they implement it and that way it can be added to shadow defender.
